Beginner\'s Guide to Choosing Electric Guitars

For the last 15 years, I have been surrounded by electric guitars. My husband is a guitar player, and has been playing since he was six years old. Though I am content with our lifestyle, there are times I wish he had a cheaper hobby. I know that music is his life, and this I can understand, but I wish it didn’t have to be so expensive. There are worse things in life however, so I guess I will just have to grin and bear it. I suppose if he were not playing guitar there are worse things he could be doing.

He has had many electric guitars and his life. He tells me that his first was a hot pink, snake skin guitar that was a gift to him from his mother and his stepfather. This guitar is long gone, but now and then he will talk about it. I think if you could find one somewhere that looked like his first guitar he would want to buy. Luckily for me, I haven’t seen any hot pink electric guitars for a very long time. I’m sure if you were to find one to it would be more expensive than anything else he has in our home. That is just my luck.

My husband now has five different electric guitars. Each one was quite an investment. His most recent guitar is worth $1000. I have to admit that it is quite beautiful. This guitar is white with a beautiful inlay around the perimeter and has a beautiful tone. Of all his electric guitars, I think this one is my favorite. The best part about this guitar was that it was free. He works in construction, and often does side work for friends or people his friends know. This particular guitar was done in exchange for a bathroom remodel. It only took him a weekend and the guitar was his.

He doesn’t get all of his electric guitars this way however. Most of them we have had to purchase and most of them have been rather expensive. I do understand this however, because I know there are some things you have to pay more for if you want good quality. There is no sense in spending $100 on a guitar if it will not sound good and it will not keep him happy. Electric guitars are all different. Even the same model can be different from guitar to guitar. I don’t mind if he owns as many guitars as he wishes, as long as he picks them out himself. The purchase is always best left to the musician. I guess that leaves me off the hook.
